Facing the ancient Sassi districts stretches the Matera Murgia Park, a natural landscape characterised by limestone plateaus, deep ravines, caves and ancient places of worship carved into the rock.<\/p>\n<p>The excursion allows you to observe Matera from a surprising perspective, crossing the landscape that has accompanied the history of the city since its origins.<\/p>\n<p>The route can begin from the Sassi side or from the Jazzo Gattini environmental education centre, on the Murgia Timone plateau. Depending on the fitness of the participants, you can choose a simple panoramic walk or a more demanding itinerary in the Gravina.<\/p>\n<p>One of the Park&#8217;s official proposals is Path 406, which connects Porta Pistola to Murgia Timone: it is about 6 kilometres long, takes approximately two hours and is classified as medium difficulty. The route descends towards the Gravina stream, crosses the pedestrian connection and climbs back up towards the plateau.<\/p>\n<p>For a less demanding experience you can choose a panoramic route on the Murgia Timone plateau, with stops at the viewpoints and at some rock complexes. The Park also offers simple paths, such as Path 408, and short itineraries in the panoramic area facing the Sassi.<\/p>\n<p>During the excursion we observe the ravine, the spontaneous vegetation, the natural cavities and the traces left by the communities that inhabited this territory.<\/p>\n<p>From the panoramic points of Murgia Timone opens one of the most moving views over the Sassi di Matera: an extraordinary encounter between city and landscape.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matera is not just a city of stone.
