Castel del Monte dominates the landscape of the Alta Murgia from the top of a hill, with its unmistakable octagonal structure and the eight towers arranged along the perimeter.<\/p>\n
Built in the thirteenth century at the behest of Frederick II of Swabia, the castle continues to fascinate visitors and scholars for the geometric precision of its architecture, for its relationship with light and for the numerous symbolic meanings that have been attributed to it.<\/p>\n
UNESCO describes Castel del Monte as a unique medieval work, characterised by the meeting of elements of classical antiquity, Islamic culture and the Cistercian Gothic of northern Europe. Its position, its regular shape and the mathematical and astronomical precision of the design contribute to its exceptional value.<\/p>\n
During the guided tour we observe the fa\u00e7ade, the entrance portal, the central octagonal courtyard and the rooms arranged over the two levels.<\/p>\n
