In the heart of the Alta Murgia National Park, among karst landscapes, fragrant pastures and ancient rural traditions, an authentic experience dedicated to nature, sheep farming and the art of cheese production awaits you.<\/p>\n
The Alta Murgia is a vast plateau shaped over the centuries by water and limestone rock. Gullies, ravines, sinkholes and undulating expanses draw an evocative landscape, enriched by numerous spontaneous aromatic herbs that make the pastures fertile and help to give the dairy products unmistakable aromas and flavours.<\/p>\n
In this territory, where the history of humans has always intertwined with that of nature, sheep farming is one of the activities that have most contributed to defining the identity of the Murgia. The breeding and cheese-making techniques are handed down for generations, in respect of natural rhythms and rural tradition.<\/p>\n
The experience takes place at Masseria Scalera, a family-run farm dedicated to the breeding of sheep, goats and cattle and to the artisan production of cheeses and dairy products.<\/p>\n
Welcoming the participants will be Mariantonietta, the Shepherdess of the Murgia, who will tell of her own life choice, the daily relationship with the animals and the passion with which she carries on an ancient craft, made of dedication, knowledge and deep respect for nature.<\/p>\n
During the guided visit to the masseria it will be possible to get to know the farm animals and discover more closely the daily life of an authentic pastoral reality of the Alta Murgia.<\/p>\n
The experience continues in the cheese-making workshop, where you can observe the artisan preparation of the cheeses and mozzarella. An opportunity to learn about the different stages of processing and to learn some of the secrets that make it possible to obtain natural, genuine and flavourful products.<\/p>\n
At the end of the visit a tasting of typical cheeses and local products is provided, accompanied by Pane di Altamura DOP, wine of the area, water and coffee.<\/p>\n
